Last Week Wednesday’s Update In Photography Class.

Last week Wednesday 30th October, 2019 during advanced photography class we learnt about the UN developmental goals. The sustainable development goals(SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations General Assemblyin 2015 for the year 2030. The SDGs are part of Resolution70/1 of the United Nations General Assembly, the 2030 Agenda. After the class discussion our lecturer shared the the 17 developmental goals amongst us by letting us hand pick pieces of papers and I had SDGs no.1 (No poverty). We were later asked to research on our various topics and later post on our blog. 



TASKS:
• Decide a name for the blog (Hwepa)
• Get personal statements
• Get photos
• Video statements
• Decide web platform
• Look at budget
• Create individual blogs and send links to class rep to send to the lecturer
 • Blogs for individuals to use:
           Blogger, Wordpress, Format
• Put links to the assignments on blog with references.
• Put links to other people who have done something similar or still doing.
• Write about this week’s class and what you’re doing about the assignment there. (Check spelling and grammar too)


ASSIGNMENTS GIVEN:

1. Research on the Millennium Developmental Goals (Situation globally, in Ghana, how it is being handled globally, how it can be solved, how photography can help and how you will help).
2. Start blog
3. Research on lens culture, Accraphoto, Francis Kokroko, Aperture foundation, Nyan Qamyne, Ben Von Wong and African show boy (Nana Kofi Acquah)

On Wednesday, the 27th of November my colleagues and I visited the Nabuke art gallery with our lecturer. They were exhibiting art works of James Barnor a pioneered photographer. JAMES BARNOR  A RETROSPECTIVE  23rd November 2019- 10th May 2020 James Barnor (b.1929) is now widely recognized as one of Ghana’s most pioneering photographers. Taught by his cousin’s J.P.D. Dodoo and Julius Aikins, and gifted with equipment from his uncle Mr William Ankrah, his career began modestly. Determined and dedicated, Barnor became the first photojournalist at the inception of the  Daily Graphic  newspaper in 1950. Three years later he opened  Ever Young,  his first photographic studio in Jamestown. Taking innovation in his stride, Barnor moved to London in 1959 to develop his practice. SDG 2. No Poverty

Poverty  is  not  having enough material possessions or income for a person's needs.  Poverty   may include social, economic, and political elements. Absolute  poverty is the  complete lack of the  means  necessary to meet basic personal needs, such as food, clothing and shelter. Sustainable development is the organizing principle for meeting human development goals while simultaneously sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem development upon which the economy and society depend. The desired result is a state of society where living conditions and resources are used to continue to meet human needs without undermining the integrity and stability of the natural system. Sustainable development can be defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. WACEE

WEST AFRICAN CLEAN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT TRADE FAIR AND CONFERENCE 2019 (WACEE19) Friday 8th of November, 2019 was the last day of the WACEE seminar held at the Accra International Conference Center. The seminar started around 8:30 am and ended around 12:30. Upon my arrival around 10:00 am, there was a registration point where I had to input my personal information so that a tag can be created for me before I could attend the seminar. The places was full of activities. There were various seminars going on, people exhibiting their works, and also photographers documenting the ongoing activities.   The 3-day WACEE’19 conference was basically about drawing scores of industry experts, business leaders, key decision makers, and high-profile experts in clean energy, water and circular economy. An effective platform to ensure that discussions around sustainable energy supply and environment stay relevant and at the forefront of the region’s development agenda.
