Personal Statement

I am Theodora Coleman, a final year student of Radford University College studying Advanced Photography.

The main purpose of taking photographs is to capture life moments, to make those moments last,to be able to remember them and to share with others. Photography is a process. Every step involves decision making about the placement of objects,appropriate settings and the right light and color setting. 

As a graphic designer I manipulate photos to communicate an idea so I want to build my photography skills which can lead to a better design, improve my composition skills and how elements relate in an image. Photography will help me understand the impact of light and color, and the importance of texture. Also some employers look for graphic designers with a photography background. 

After my study of Advanced Photography, I would love to become a master of reaching my audience through emotions and feelings by capturing or freezing time to share the moment with them by telling their story. Another benefit is to produce original images to create custom logo designs instead of relying on the internet for stock images.

I pledge to take this course seriously, be punctual to class, participate in all class projects, open to criticism and be dedicated to this course.

On Wednesday, the 27th of November my colleagues and I visited the Nabuke art gallery with our lecturer. They were exhibiting art works of James Barnor a pioneered photographer. JAMES BARNOR  A RETROSPECTIVE  23rd November 2019- 10th May 2020 James Barnor (b.1929) is now widely recognized as one of Ghana’s most pioneering photographers. Taught by his cousin’s J.P.D. Dodoo and Julius Aikins, and gifted with equipment from his uncle Mr William Ankrah, his career began modestly. Determined and dedicated, Barnor became the first photojournalist at the inception of the  Daily Graphic  newspaper in 1950. Three years later he opened  Ever Young,  his first photographic studio in Jamestown. Taking innovation in his stride, Barnor moved to London in 1959 to develop his practice. Poverty  is  not  having enough material possessions or income for a person's needs.  Poverty   may include social, economic, and political elements. Absolute  poverty is the  complete lack of the  means  necessary to meet basic personal needs, such as food, clothing and shelter. Sustainable development is the organizing principle for meeting human development goals while simultaneously sustaining the ability of natural systems to provide the natural resources and ecosystem development upon which the economy and society depend. The desired result is a state of society where living conditions and resources are used to continue to meet human needs without undermining the integrity and stability of the natural system. Sustainable development can be defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. WACEE

WEST AFRICAN CLEAN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT TRADE FAIR AND CONFERENCE 2019 (WACEE19) Friday 8th of November, 2019 was the last day of the WACEE seminar held at the Accra International Conference Center. The seminar started around 8:30 am and ended around 12:30. Upon my arrival around 10:00 am, there was a registration point where I had to input my personal information so that a tag can be created for me before I could attend the seminar. The places was full of activities. There were various seminars going on, people exhibiting their works, and also photographers documenting the ongoing activities.   The 3-day WACEE’19 conference was basically about drawing scores of industry experts, business leaders, key decision makers, and high-profile experts in clean energy, water and circular economy. An effective platform to ensure that discussions around sustainable energy supply and environment stay relevant and at the forefront of the region’s development agenda.
